Jonathan Jarvis
Trustee & Accompanist
Jonathan is a versatile musician who enjoys a portfolio career in music.
His experience includes playing keyboards in pit bands for musicals such as The Addams Family, Kinky Boots, Avenue Q, and Cats. In addition to his theatrical work, Jonathan is an accomplished accompanist for festivals, exams, auditions, and competitions. He also enjoys performing with smaller ensembles, including his jazz trio and improvisation group, Ad Lib.
Jonathan trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he graduated with a first-class Master’s degree in Collaborative Piano and went on to become a Junior Fellow. Currently, he works as an ad hoc staff pianist, co-directing The American Songbook Company module and occasionally collaborating with students from the acting course. On graduating, Jonathan was selected as a Britten-Pears Young Artist,
Jonathan began his musical journey at the University of Huddersfield, where he earned his undergraduate music degree with first-class honors and was awarded the Rodwell Prize for Piano. It was during his time there that he developed a love for accompaniment and collaborative playing. Whilst a student there, he founded his first function band and gained valuable experience as a répétiteur for dramatic societies.
Jonathan maintains a thriving private piano studio and serves as Musical Director and Vocal Coach for singers at the Leicester College of Performing Arts. His work extends to Curve Theatre, where he has acted as Musical Director for two youth theatre groups, preparing them for various productions.
As a session musician and arranger, Jonathan has recorded piano tracks ranging from video game soundtracks to song accompaniments, including the album Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, with his recent SATB arrangements being featured in concert performances. This year, Jonathan is excited to be Musical Director for LAOS’s production of Sondheim’s Into The Woods taking place at Curve theatre in June 2025.
Alongside performing, Jonathan is also a co-founder and trustee of Leicester MusicFest.
